Annotatsiya

The formation of a step on the surface of a crystal as a result of the emergence of an edge dislocation is discussed. The description of the dislocation in the theory of elasticity is shown to be consistent with the description of the step in the theory of surface tension. It has been established that a step on the surface can break off, ending in a screw dislocation that emerges on the surface: when discussing the processes of the formation of steps on a surface it is necessary to take account of a reaction of the step ⇄ dislocation type. Attention is drawn to the fact that the crystallization-melting wave can be represented as the directed motion of a large number of growth steps on the surface of the quantum crystal. The dynamics of steps has been considered and the effective mass of an individual step has been calculated. A correction has been found to the dispersion relation for Andreev–Parshin surface waves.
