Annotatsiya

We have studied the properties of ductility, strength, and the brittle–ductile transition (BDT) in inert Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe cryocrystals. A theoretical model of the BDT, which makes it possible to estimate the value of the BDT barrier, is proposed. It is shown that for cryocrystals with a considerable contribution of the energy of zero-point vibrations to the binding energy a quantum correction must be introduced, using an effective temperature that is proportional to the rms displacements.
