Influence of noncentral interatomic forces on the low temperature thermodynamics of layered crystals

Using the method of Jacobi matrices for a particular model of a strongly anisotropic crystalline lattice, we have analyzed the influence of noncentral interaction of atoms lying in the same basal plane on the phonon density of states, on the low temperature specific heat, and on the conditions for the appearance of localized vibrations. We have shown, in particular, that in considering experimental data on the low temperature specific heat of layered crystals it is not valid to consider only the contribution due to bending vibrations.
