Annotatsiya

The interaction of light with systems of almost free quasibound electrons in single-crystalline gadolinium in the region of d–f exchange resonance (0.49 ≤ ℏω ≤ 1.1 eV; 4.2 ≤ T ≤ 343 K) is studied experimentally and theoretically. It is found that the position of the resonant optical-absorption bands is determined by the d–f exchange interaction within a single atom, and their intensity is determined by the orientation and degree of ordering of the intra-atomic optical dipoles.
