Seasonal Variations of Phytoplankton in a Series of Waste Treatment Lagoons (Chimkent, Central Asia) Part 2: Distribution of Phytoplankton Numbers and Biomass

Abstract This report gives a detailed description of the distribution of phytoplankton numbers and biomass in the Chimkent waste treatment lagoons. The increase in phytoplankton numbers and biomass is accounted for by the effect of ecological factors. The maximum increase in phytoplankton numbers in lagoons examined is recorded in summer when members of Chlorophyta are dominant; its minimum level is observed in winter duo to the low water temperature and irradiance.
