The possibility of formation of fullerene-like closed shells from molecules and elements characterized by electronic and steric parameters which are required for the formation of polyhedral structures is discussed. It is concluded, on the basis of a formal analogy between the structures formed by boron nitride and carbon, that compounds based on combinations of boron and nitrogen are most suitable in this respect.
