Structural distortions of copper–oxygen layers and the nature of weak ferromagnetism in compounds of the R2CuO4 type

Possible types of crystal structure distortions in copper–oxygen layers, which are responsible for weak ferromagnetism of compounds belonging to the R2CuO4 family are classified on the basis of the symmetry analysis. The most probable type of such distortions is indicated. The obtained results are compared with the experimental data.
