Nonlinear current-voltage characteristics of bismuth are studied at liquid helium temperatures. It is shown experimentally that, if the magnetic field vector is directed along the binary axis, the nonlinear conductivity regime established in the sample with a characteristic relaxation time τb is followed by a transient process whose duration τx is an order of magnitude larger than τb.
