Alfven waves in gallium
Annotatsiya
Alfvén-type magnetoplasma waves excited in high-purity gallium at a frequency 50–150 MHz in a magnetic field 10–35 kOe have been experimentally observed and investigated. The measured values of the Alfvén velocity are in good agreement with the results of its numerical calculations on the basis of Reed’s model for the electron spectrum of Ga with a fitting value of the averaged Fermi velocity close to the one used earlier [E. V. Bezuglyi et al., Fiz. Nizk. Temp. 19, 300 (1993); Sov. J. Low Temp. Phys. 19, 211 (1993)] for calculating the spectrum of a fast magnetoacoustic wave and estimating the Fermi liquid interaction parameter in gallium. The temperature dependence of the Alfvén wave velocity can be used to estimate the frequencies of electron-electron and electron-phonon relaxation in gallium, which are found to be in good agreement with the results of other measurements.
