COMPARATIVE STUDY OF FOLKLORE THEMES

Abstract This paper comparatively examines the Japanese folklore “Sparrow’s reward” and Uzbek folklore “Golden Watermelon”. The content and composition of “Sparrow’s reward” is very similar to the Uzbek folk tale. It also examines the similarities and differences between Japanese and Uzbek old stories, paying attention to the story patterns and characteristics of the tales, the formation and timing of the story, the characters, the birds that appear in the tales, and the seeds of gratitude.\n\nFolklore is one of the major genres of oral literature and is created to express the dreams and aspirations of the nation. And in old folk tales, dreams, desires and goals of nation are associated with people’s living environment, religious and secular views of the world. Although there are differences between Japanese and Uzbek folk tales in detail, there are no major differences in the basics of composition and development of folk tales, and the two stories are surprisingly similar. The main theme of the folk tales can be clarified while taking into account the social backgrounds, lifestyles, and ethnic desires of both countries and through consideration of the similarities and differences between Japanese and Uzbek folk tales.
