THE STATE OF GLUCOCORTICOSTEROID BACKGROUND IN PATIENTS WITH VIRAL HEPATITIS DEPENDING ON THE ETIOLOGICAL FACTOR

Adrenal insufficiency in patients with a severe course of viral hepatitis is common and leads to unstable hemodynamics, liver failure and a high mortality rate. In many cases of severe course of viral hepatitis there is an increase in cortisol in the blood. Our studies assessed the level of cortisol and transcortin in patients with viral hepatitis. It was revealed that lack of functional activity of endogenous cortisol depends on decrease of transcortin level in blood. Free fraction of cortisol was more elevated in patients with HDV and HBV infection in comparison with patients with HCV infection and this increase was accompanied by lowering of transcortin in the blood.
