APPEARANCE AND DEVELOPMENT OF AMERICAN POLITICAL SATIRICAL LITERATURE

This article discusses the appearance of American political satire from Breckenridge's novel "Modern Chivalry" to the contemporary period, highlights the characteristic features of American political satire. The purpose of this article is to review the main representatives of American political satire and their contribution to the formation and continuation of the American literary tradition. Also, the focus is on the American political satirical novel, which is a typically American genre and characterizes the development of the American political system. Since an increasing number of writers choose comic genres, the study of political satire seems relevant and promising.
