Abstract The article covers thermal treatment of the working surface of the needle of shoe sewing machines with laser beams. The degree of influence of mode factors on the quality of sewing needles treated with laser beams has been theoretically studied. A mathematical model for processing a sewing needle with a laser beam, which establishes the relationship between mode factors and the quality of the working part of the needle has been developed. The model allows evaluating the influence of each factor on the quality of the needle. An equation showing that the planetary and vertical movement of the needles have the greatest influence on the quality of the processed needles has been obtained.
