The author of the article, on the basis of scientific and historical literature and archival sources, analyzes the development of irrigated agriculture in natural arid Uzbekistan, shows a historical picture of the main trends in the development and establishment of cotton monoculture in the first half of the 20th century using the example of the Ferghana Valley. During the researched period, the Soviet government in Uzbekistan, including the long-established forms of economic management in the Fergana Valley, where the climate is naturally favorable for cotton cultivation, irrigated agriculture, grossly violated the balance of cultivation of existing crops in agriculture, and the agricultural traditions used in agriculture, using the available financial resources, practical behavior - it is highlighted that the actions are aimed at providing cotton raw materials necessary for the "center" light industry. As a result, in the Fergana Valley, where agriculture is relatively developed in Uzbekistan, it was studied that cotton monopolies were formed in the agrarian sector as the forms of economic management based on new socio-economic relations were established.
