Annotatsiya

This paper examines the emerging phenomenon of cognitive atrophy amid increasing reliance on artificial intelligence systems as intellectual assistants. As AI technologies become ubiquitous across educational and professional contexts, concerns grow about the potential deterioration of independent thinking capabilities, critical evaluation skills, and cognitive self-sufficiency. Through comparative and inductive analysis, this research conceptualizes cognitive atrophy as a multifaceted process where excessive reliance on AI guidance progressively diminishes users' intellectual autonomy and problem-solving capabilities. The paper proposes a conceptual framework for “cognitive resilience” that transforms human-AI interaction from passive consumption of generated outputs to a dynamic, dialogical process stimulating meta-cognitive development. The proposed approach introduces “metacognitive mediation” as a methodological foundation for using AI as a catalyst for intellectual growth rather than a replacement for independent thinking. While acknowledging limitations related to the theoretical nature of the framework and diversity of implementation contexts, this research addresses a fundamental challenge facing contemporary society: maintaining and developing human cognitive capabilities in an era of increasingly sophisticated artificial intelligence systems that can perform intellectual tasks previously requiring human effort.
