Class Struggle or Popular Movement? Bulat Saliev’s Response to Abraam Gurevich’s Article

This article is dedicated to a critical analysis of A.M. Gurevich’s article “On the Class Struggle in Samarkand in 1365-1366” by Uzbek historian Bulat Saliev. The article examines the ideological influences on historical science during the Soviet period and analyzes the interpretation of the Sarbadar movement. Saliev challenges Gurevich’s class-based approach and argues that the Sarbadar movement was a popular movement consisting of artisans and the poor. The article also criticizes errors in translations and inaccuracies in Gurevich’s use of historical sources. The study emphasizes the importance of an objective analysis of historical events and consideration of different perspectives.
