The article describes the issue of determining the age dynamics of the formation of figurative and conceptual thinking of students and creating a methodical system for their development through the teaching of literature in general secondary schools. For this, the conditions for the development of figurative and conceptual thinking, as well as the content of sequential and related operations that ensure the successful development of these types of thinking, are described.
