Scientific research in various areas of computational linguistics has been conducted by many scholars around the world. Today, issues related to computational linguistics are being explored in fields such as language technology, natural language processing, machine learning, and corpus linguistics. In Uzbekistan, pioneering research in the field of computational linguistics was initiated by scholars such as N. Yaqutova, M. Ayimbetov, S. Rizaev, and S. Muhammedova. Notably, S. Muhammedova co-authored a textbook with R. Piotrovsky that presents quantitative models of Uzbek texts. Currently, the number of researchers in this field is growing, and a wide range of scholars are engaged in computational linguistics research. Furthermore, collaboration with experts from related disciplines—such as computer science and language technology—is contributing to significant progress in this domain. This article addresses research in the field of computational linguistics within Uzbek linguistics, highlights the structural and typological features of the Uzbek language, and discusses its distinctions from European languages. In addition, the article provides recommendations regarding structural aspects of Uzbek that should be considered in computational research and illustrates Chomsky’s hierarchy using examples from the Uzbek language.
