Synthesis and spectral analysis of heteroleptic Co(II) complex
Annotatsiya
In this research work, a new heteroleptic cobalt(II) complex [Co(tmphen)(dcbyp)(byp)](PF6)2] (where tmphen = 3,4,7,8-tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) was synthesized in high yield. The synthesis conditions were optimized and the actual yield was 74%. The properties of the synthesized complex were characterized using EPR, FTIR, TG-DSC, XRD spectra, etc. Analysis of the FTIR spectra of the complex and its ligands shows that coordination occurs through cobalt and nitrogen atoms. Thermal analysis confirmed that the complex contains three different ligands in the octahedral field. The final product after intense heating during the thermal study was cobalt(II) oxide, and no further oxidation took place. The coordination number of the cobalt metal ion in the complex is 6, and the octahedral geometry is slightly distorted. EPR studies further validated the distortion of the structure after assessing the g-factor. In addition, some molecular and intermolecular interactions were observed. Powder XRD showed that the [Co(tmphen)(dcbyp)(byp)](PF6)2 complex has a unique crystalline structure, and its interplanar spacing was calculated. The obtained complex consists of 83.05% crystalline and 16.95% amorphous structure.
