LiFi-Assisted WiFi Offloading for Congestion-Free Urban Transportation Networks
Annotatsiya
The fast evolution of vehicles connected with wireless technologies as well as intelligent transportation services has increased the pressure on the high-capacity wireless communication in highly populated cities. Traditional WiFi systems are prone to extreme congestions, thus augmenting delay and poor quality of service. The paper is a proposed LiFi-assisted WiFi offloading mechanism aimed at relieving the WiFi network load through smart communication routing the data streams via high capacity LiFi connections. The hybrid system proposed is a combination of photonics-based LiFi access points and WiFi roadside units that are already present to create a hybrid LiFi communication system that is mobility conscious to the transportation networks of urban scenes. The dynamic offloading strategy is designed so as to maximize throughput, reduce handover delay and service continuity in case of vehicular mobility. With the use of an NS-3 and SUMO co-simulation environment, performance analysis has revealed that the hybrid system can greatly enhance network throughput, minimise endto-end latency, and increase the overall efficiency of offloading to serve a purpose in creating wireless communication on the internet without congestion in smart cities.
