Smart vehicles in the IoT and V2X communications context need human-centered interfaces that can visualize multiparametric and multicriterion data in real time without distracting the driver’s attention. Traditional Head-Up Display (HUD) imposes visual accommodation conflict on the pilots by projecting information at one depth plane, thereby reducing the field of awareness. This paper suggests an IoT-enabled multi-depth Augmented Reality (AR) HUD system using Holographic Optical Elements (HOEs) to project images in multiple layers at different depths. By taking advantage of the wavelength and angular selectivity of HOEs, the proposed system enables the support for the depth-separated visualization IoT/V2X data streams such as collision alerts, environmental monitoring, and navigation guidance. The design combines a compact projection unit with reflective HOEs and achieves high diffraction efficiency with lightweight architectural design. Enhanced FOV (field of view), eye box performance, and depth separation are validated through simulations and analyzed prototypes, showing the feasibility of HOE (holographic optical element)-based HUDs (head-up displays) for IoT (Internet of Things) led smart transportation systems.
