An extensive examination of corrosion in communication towers is presented in this chapter, with particular attention given to the mechanisms, detection methods, and preventative measures that are crucial to maintaining these vital structures. The types of corrosion that are pertinent to communication towers and the environmental conditions that affect corrosion rates are covered first. The chapter then delves into particular difficulties brought about by the towers’ height, layout, and position, emphasizing how crucial material choice is to preventing corrosion. The efficiency of advanced detection methods, such as the use of drones and sensor-based systems, in locating and tracking corrosion is evaluated. The use of corrosion-resistant materials, coatings, and cathodic protection are a few examples of protection techniques that are covered, along with best practices for implementing and preserving them. The importance of strong corrosion control for maintaining the durability, dependability, and safety of communication towers is emphasized in the chapter’s conclusion, which also suggests potential paths for enhancing corrosion control through technical improvements.
