An Integrated Approach to Automating the Technological Process of Manufacturing Housing Parts by the Lost Wax Casting Method

The article presents the results of research and implementation of comprehensive automation of the technological process for manufacturing housing-type parts by the lost wax casting method using KUKA robotic systems. The structure of interaction between technological modules, integrated into a unified digital control system based on the KUKA Cell Controller, is examined. Information and material flows within the cyber-physical system, ensuring end-to-end digitalization of production, are analyzed. The implementation results demonstrate a 37.2% reduction in the production cycle, an increase in Overall Equipment Effectiveness to 83%, and a 27.3% decrease in the defect rate. A significant improvement in the stability of the geometric parameters of parts was noted, which reduced the need for subsequent processing by 62%. The system’s deployment enhanced operator safety and provided flexibility for rapid reconfiguration of production to manufacture various modifications of the product. The proposed solution lays the foundation for expanding the product range and integrating with digital enterprise planning systems, confirming the potential for scaling this approach to other technological processes and creating fully integrated digital manufacturing systems in the metallurgical industry.
