Geochemical Features of the Distribution of Radioactive and Rare Earth Elements in Coals and Ashes and their Relationship with the Mineral Matter
Annotatsiya
This study examines the geochemical features of the distribution of natural radioactive and rare earth elements in coals and ashes and their relationship with the mineral matter of coal. The relevance of the research is determined by the need for a comprehensive understanding of the factors controlling the concentrations of radioactive and rare earth components in coal substance and its combustion products, as well as their influence on the technological and environmental characteristics of the fuel. It is shown that natural radionuclides and rare earth elements are predominantly associated with the mineral fraction of coal and are characterized by enrichment in ash. Statistically significant correlations have been established between the total content of light rare earth elements and thorium, as well as between natural radioactivity parameters and ash yield, indicating common mineralogical hosts and similar geochemical accumulation mechanisms. The obtained results confirm that ash yield can be considered an integral characteristic of the mineral matter of coal, reflecting the distribution of radioactive and rare earth elements.
