THE IMPACT OF ANEMIA ON PROGNOSIS IN CHRONIC HEART FAILURE
Annotatsiya
Chronic heart failure (CHF) remains one of the most pressing challenges of modern cardiology. Anemia is among the most common comorbid conditions in patients with CHF, aggravating the clinical course and worsening prognosis. Based on the analysis of scientific literature published between 2020 and 2026, the present article examines the impact of anemia on all-cause mortality, recurrent hospitalizations, quality of life and functional status of CHF patients. The results of major randomized clinical trials AFFIRM-AHF, IRONMAN,ʼ HEART-FID and the FAIR-HF2 trial completed in 2025 are discussed, along with the pathophysiological mechanisms of cardiorenal anemia syndrome. The findings indicate that reduced hemoglobin levels and iron deficiency significantly worsen both short- and long-term prognosis of patients with CHF, while intravenous iron therapy with ferric carboxymaltose or ferric derisomaltose contributes to a reduction in heart failure hospitalizations and cardiovascular death.
