Abstract. This article examines the history of the formation and development of the communication system in the Khorezm People’s Soviet Republic in 1920–1924. After the abolition of the Khiva Khanate, the new Soviet administrative system required the reorganization of postal, telegraph, telephone and radio communication networks. The article analyzes the activity of the postal and telegraph department, its connection with the People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs and other administrative institutions, as well as the functioning of communication points in Khiva, New Urgench, Tashhovuz, Khanka and Dargan-Ata. Special attention is paid to the role of communication in public administration, security, economic relations and social life.
