THE DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE DIRECTORIAL PROFESSION IN ANIMATION

The purpose of this study is to define the professional boundaries between the animation director, supervising animation director, and animator, as well as to substantiate the role of animation directing in contemporary cinematography. The research methodology is based on comparative analysis, theoretical generalization, and visual-dramaturgical analysis of selected animated works. The findings demonstrate that the animation director functions as the central creative agent responsible for ensuring the conceptual, visual, and narrative coherence of a project, requiring interdisciplinary knowledge and advanced artistic thinking. The study also establishes that animation is not limited to children’s entertainment but represents an independent art form capable of conveying complex philosophical and existential themes. The results further indicate that the professional status of animation directors remains insufficiently recognized. The study concludes that a more accurate understanding and evaluation of the animation director’s role is essential within modern cinematic practice.
