Memory in Motion: AI-Mediated Storytelling Across Languages, Classrooms and Generations

In increasingly multilingual and culturally di verse educational environments, storytelling has emerged as a powerful pedagogical practice for fostering language development, identity expres sion, and cultural continuity. At the same time, advances in artificial intelligence (AI) have trans formed digital storytelling by introducing new possibilities for content generation, translation, and multimodal communication. This paper ex plores the role of AI-mediated storytelling across languages, classrooms, and generations, examin ing how AI can support narrative practices while preserving human creative agency. Drawing on interdisciplinary research in language education, digital storytelling, multilingualism, heritage lan guage learning, and intergenerational memory, the study proposes a conceptual framework that positions AI as a narrative mediator rather than an autonomous storyteller. The discussion highlights the educational potential of AI-sup ported storytelling for enhancing language learn ing, promoting multilingual expression, strength ening cultural identity, and facilitating the trans mission of intergenerational memory. At the same time, it addresses critical ethical concerns related to authorship, bias, transparency, and learner agency. The paper argues that the peda gogical value of AI-mediated storytelling de pends on human-centered instructional design, critical engagement with technology, and the preservation of authentic narrative voice. Ulti mately, AI-mediated storytelling is presented as a collaborative human–machine practice that re connects language, memory, and meaning across linguistic, cultural, and generational boundaries.
