Thermonuclear Reaction Rates, II

1975en
ABI

Annotatsiya

It has been eight years since the publication of Thermonuclear Reaction Rates by Fowler, Caughlan & Zimmerman (1967) (hereafter referred to as FCZ I) in volume 5 of this series. In the interim an enormous amount of experimental data has been
\nobtained in nuclear laboratories throughout the world and new theoretical and computer-programmed techniques for analyzing these data and applying them to
\nastrophysical circumstances have been developed. It has been 101 years since Mark Twain spoke so forthrightly, so it is indeed time for another "investment of fact." In
\nthis article we revise and update the charged particle reactions involving nuclei with A ≾ 30 in FCZ I, except for the H^2(d, γ)He^4 reaction whose reaction rate is
\nvery uncertain. Reactions involving neutrons are treated as neutron-producing reactions but factors for calculating the reverse reaction rate are provided as for
\nall reactions. We have not revised the rates of the (n, γ) reactions given in FCZ l. To avoid duplication the reader is referred to FCZ I for the basic ideas underlying
\nthe determination of nuclear reaction rates under astrophysical conditions.
