At this point there is no consensus on which of the proposed theories best explains the properties of the high T c oxides. In addition to anyon theories, there are variations on the more conventional boson-exchange pairing mechanisms which have been suggested. Analyses of experimental data such as the isotope effect, gap to T c ratio, and heat capacity discontinuity at T c put constraints on the applicability of these theories and limit the number of acceptable proposals.
