Energies of external electron surface states on liquid helium

Bound states of an electron excluded from the interior of liquid helium by the exchange force but attracted to its surface by the Coulomb image potential are considered. Analytic expressions are developed which give the approximate shifts of the energy eigenvalues due to the deviation of the actual potential from the simple "hydrogenic" shape. Results are given for some model potentials.
