Annotatsiya

Despite the mechanical and durable properties of carbon steel, it undergoes degradation on reaction with environment, namely corrosion. Various organic and inorganic corrosion inhibitors are used in oil and gas industry to demise this flaw. Studies reveal that organic compounds containing N, S and O atom with conjugation in the system are effective corrosion inhibitors. However, toxicity may become an issue either in the synthesis or application process of such compounds. With growing awareness of green chemistry, researchers have developed environmentally benign inhibitors using plant extracts. Plant products contain some active ingredients possessing inhibition properties and can be extracted at ease and a low cost. This paper reports a vivid insight of the various plant extracts collected from literature used as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in oil and gas industry and compares their corrosion inhibition efficiency with respect to each other.
