Annotatsiya

Cotton was one of the first crops to which the rediscovered mendelian principles of genetics were applied. The complexity of the genetics of an allotetraploid and the uniqueness of the allotetraploid genomic relations shifted emphasis to relations of genomes in the cultivated tetraploids and wild relatives of cotton. This emphasis created increased interest in cotton cytology and cytogenetics, but it centered primarily on studies of genome manipulation, with the evolution of the species taking prominence. The change in world cotton production and research emphasis to primarily G. hirsutum cultivars created a near cessation of reported qualitative genetic research on the Asiatic cultivated diploids, G. arboreum and G. herbaceum. DaSilva et al. recorded simple inheritance of Meyer's pollen fertility restoration in a cytogenetic test, but multiple inheritance in a conventional genetic analysis. Comparative cytogenetics and taxonomy of the Gossypium species essentially rules out an origin of the allotetraploids involving human transport of the A genome progenitor.
