The recently proposed infinite square well E(5) description of nuclei at the critical point of the phase transition from vibrator to $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-soft rotor is extended to include the effects of finite well depth. The evolution of nuclear observables as a function of well depth is studied, and observables sensitive to finite well depth are identified.
