B(E1) and B(E2) reduced probabilities for intra- and inter-band transitions between the collective states of the yrast, first nonyrast and second nonyrast alternating-parity bands in the lanthanide nuclei [Formula: see text]Nd, [Formula: see text]Sm, [Formula: see text]Gd, [Formula: see text]Dy, [Formula: see text]Er and the actinides [Formula: see text]U are studied within a model with collective quadrupole–octupole degrees of freedom. The calculated B(E1)- and B(E2)-values and some ratios between probabilities for transitions with the same multipolarity are compared with available experimental data. In addition, the B(E2)-transition ratios are compared with the Alaga rules providing estimations for the sensitivity of the E2-transitions to the quadrupole deformation mode in the considered nuclei.
