Annotatsiya

The recently described nemacheilid species Triplophysa ferganaensis Sheraliev & Peng, 2021 is recorded from the Podshootasoy River in northern Fergana Valley, which belongs to the Syr Darya basin, representing its northernmost known occurrence. Previously, the species had been reported from the Shohimardonsoy, Oltiariqsoy, and Isfayramsoy rivers in Uzbekistan and the Istara River in Tajikistan. Morphological comparisons and principal component analysis (PCA) of specimens from four river populations revealed strong phenotypic similarity, supporting their conspecific status. Additional data on the species’ diet and reproductive characteristics are also presented. This new record expands the known distribution range and suggests a broader occurrence in high-altitude streams of the region.
