Annotatsiya

The tunneling of a polaron between two chains of polyacetylene chains due to harmonic phonons is studied within the adiabatic approximation. The Franck-Condon factor for the tunneling is calculated to be 0.1, yielding a perpendicular polaron bandwidth of $(0.1)4{t}_{\ensuremath{\perp}}\ensuremath{\sim}0.03$ eV. The quantum correction to the polaron energy, $\ensuremath{\delta}{E}_{P}$, is found to be $\ensuremath{\delta}{E}_{P}\ensuremath{\sim}\ensuremath{-}\frac{{E}_{P}}{6}$, where ${E}_{P}=0.6$ eV is the energy of the polaron.
