Annotatsiya
The explicit form of the irreducible tensor spectrum of a general fifth-rank tensor is derived by employing the method due to Jerphagnon and co-workers (1978). The specific forms of the various irreducible parts describing the acoustical activity in the 21 non-centrosymmetric crystal classes are obtained from this spectrum. The physical significance of the irreducible parts is discussed with reference to ferroacoustogyrotropy. A comparison with optical activity is made, and the possibility of acoustical activity in amorphous solids is indicated.
