Calculation of Binding Energy and Elastic Constants of Simple Metals

Abstract By use of the simple model potential which is a smooth function and whose parameters depend on the lattice constant, the total energy expression is obtained by the second order perturbation theory. One calculates the binding energy, the lattice constant, and elastic constants of simple metal with cubic structure and finds the numerical values of parameters which give good agreement with the experiment in the case of alkali metals except Li.
