Annotatsiya

This study is a comparative pragmatic-linguistic analysis of conflict speech acts in the French and Uzbek languages. Based on classical speech act theory and contemporary intercultural pragmatics, the paper analyses the linguistic encoding as well as the pragmatic interpretation of disagreement, criticism, objection and reproach in both languages. The research is grounded in a qualitative-quantitative corpus analysis of authentic dialogues originating from the media discourse, literary texts and recorded conversational interactions. They also reveal the tendency of French speech acts in conflict to favor direct illocutionary strategies, whereas their Uzbek counterparts rely much more on refraction, mitigation and politeness-oriented formulations. Results shed light on the effects of sociocultural norms on illocutionary force, face management strategies and expectations. The study is relevant to contrastive pragmatics, intercultural communication and applied linguistics.
