In this article, the role of higher educational institutions of our republic in the issues of environmental protection, ecological culture, ecological education, ecological enlightenment, the current state of teaching ecological sciences and the problems arising in teaching are analyzed in detail. Environmental degradation poses significant threats globally, necessitating a workforce equipped with environmental knowledge and skills. Higher education institutions (HEIs) play a crucial role in fostering environmental literacy and promoting sustainable practices. This article examines the relevance and necessity of integrating environmental sciences into HEI curricula.
