Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) has become one of the most influential approaches in foreign language education. Unlike traditional teaching methods that focus heavily on grammar instruction and memorization, CLT emphasizes meaningful communication, interaction, and the practical use of language in real-life situations. The approach aims to develop learners' communicative competence by encouraging active participation, collaborative learning, and the use of authentic materials. Through communicative tasks and interactive activities, students are provided with opportunities to apply language knowledge in meaningful contexts. Despite its numerous advantages, CLT faces several challenges. Critics argue that the emphasis on fluency may result in insufficient attention to grammatical accuracy. Furthermore, the assessment of communicative competence remains a complex issue because traditional testing methods often fail to evaluate real communicative ability. The successful implementation of CLT also depends on teacher preparedness, institutional support, and classroom conditions. In many educational contexts, especially in non-native English-speaking countries, traditional examination systems and teacher-centered methodologies continue to dominate language instruction. This paper examines the major advantages and limitations of Communicative Language Teaching and explores future developments that may enhance its effectiveness. Particular attention is given to the integration of technology, balanced instructional models, and innovative assessment methods that can help address existing challenges. The study concludes that a combination of communicative and structured approaches may provide the most effective framework for language learning in contemporary educational settings.
