Abstract

It is shown that by using desorption of helium to obtain temperatures below 2°K one can lower the working temperature and considerably reduce the mass flow of gas as compared with the method involving pumping vapor above liquid helium. It is shown that these effects are mainly determined by the occurrence of an unsaturated superfluid helium film due to desorption.
