Magnetism of conduction electrons near points of variation in the topology of isoenergetic surfaces
Abstract
The magnetic susceptibility χ of conduction electrons is analyzed under conditions of nearness of the chemical potential ζ to the value of the energy ϵk at which the topology of isoenergetic surfaces changes, i.e., for | ζ−ϵk| ≪ ζ. It is shown that the susceptibility depends non-monotonically on the temperature T which has an extremum at the point T1. In weak magnetic fields H the displacement ΔT of the temperature T1 and the change Δχ in the extremum χ are quadratic in H. Formulas are obtained for ΔT and Δχ, which afford the possibility of determining the electron energy spectrum near ϵk from the results of measuring these quantities.
