Abstract
It is shown that under the conditions of a strong electron–ripplon interaction the possibility arises of the coupling of the phonons of a two-dimensional Wigner crystal with the surface and volume collective excitations of liquid helium (second surface sound, phonons, etc.) as well as with surface waves of a solid substrate. A dispersion equation is found that describes this kind of coupled oscillations. It is shown that the phonon branches specific to an electron crystal can be excited effectively by using the sound waves listed above.
