Abstract

Semi-empirical nonlocal pseudopotentials are used to calculate changes in the electronic spectrum of cadmium at helium temperatures under uniform and uniaxial compression as well as under doping with isovalent impurities (magnesium and mercury). The local damping parameters are calculated for the electronic states in Cd−(Mg) and Cd−(Hg). A number of electronic topological transitions are predicted at the symmetry points K and L and on the symmetry line Σ in the Brillouin zone. The paper discusses the relation between distinctive features of the behavior of some physical characteristics of Cd−Mg and Cd−Hg alloys as well as of cadmium under pressure, along with changes in the Fermi-surface topology.
