Abstract

Fair pay for the teacher's labor is a problem whose discussion was virtually banned for many years. Just coming into contact with the issue hit daredevils like an electric current and dispelled any desire to take it up seriously. Perestroika opened up the chronic problem to broad, candid, interested discussion, and Aleksandr Nikitenko's article in Narodnoe obrazovanie constituted an invitation to it. Now the discussion continues, centering on the material of "To Each According to His Labor" (issue no. 4 of 1989). You will find readers' responses in nos. 5, 8, 9, and 11, and in this "New Year's" issue of the journal. We do not anticipate that the statements below will bring the theme to a close, as its topicality is hardly likely to decline.
