Abstract
Four, possibly five, superdeformed bands are known in {sup 193}Hg. Previous experiments showed that two of them are in coincidence with each other. This Eurogam experiment was designed to observe the cross band linking transitions. The reaction used was {sup 48}Ca + {sup 150}Nd at 213 MeV. Gamma-rays were measured using 44 detectors of the Eurogam array. In brief, the dipole linking transitions were observed; careful measurements reveal these to be M1 transitions. Measurements of the B(M1)/B(E2) branching ratio and the E2 lifetime (DSAM) allowed the authors to calculate the g-factor in these superdeformed bands.
