Abstract

Cryocrystals of inert gases excited by electrons display a new type of radiation, viz., extended asymmetric continua whose maximum intensity lies above Eg. It is shown that the observed radiation corresponds to the earliest stages of energy relaxation of excitations. The significant role of the energy structure on the shape and position of the continua is revealed, and the mechanisms responsible for the formation of the observed radiation are considered.
