Abstract

The use of Computational Commutative Algebra, see [2], [4], [1], has been suggested as a tool in statistical design in [6] and [8]. It consists in the description of finite sets of points in an affine space k, where k is a computable number field, as the set of zeroes of a system of polynomial equations. A presentation of this theory is contained in [5, Ch. 1-3], on which this lecture is based. Reference to relevant literature in the last 5 years is contained in the talk at the link http://staff.polito.it/giovanni.pistone/rogantin.pdf.
